This month it is Karen, our amazing Breakaway on Bridge (BoB) Facility Manager, a registered nurse and a highly experienced and dedicated caregiver.

We asked Karen a few questions about herself and her role at Breakaway, here’s what she said;

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I grew up in Brymaroo and moved to Toowoomba when I finished high school to study nursing. I have 3 daughters and when I’m not spending time with my family, I like to paint and garden.  My husband says I almost have as many plants inside the house as outside now (he’s probably not wrong either)!

What did you do before you joined the Breakaway Team?

I have been a RN for 14 years. I worked at the local private hospital in the medical, cardiac and oncology wards and worked in the community setting as well.

      I used to work as a support worker when I was studying nursing and had missed working in the disability industry. I love being a nurse and when I saw the opportunity to join Breakaway I was so excited to get the chance to work in the disability industry again.

What do you like about working for Breakaway?

The staff here are so dedicated and our participants amaze me every day with their abilities and their insightfulness.

What are you most looking forward to this year?

I enjoy travel – not really possible at present – however, I do hope eventually to go on some more overseas adventures with my family soon.

I’d also like to volunteer in Vietnam and have a nurse friend keen to join me, currently not sure when but we will get there eventually!
